Claude for WordPress Is Real: John Turner Just Shipped a Plugin That Works

John Turner, the founder behind SeedProd and its 25 million plugin downloads, just shipped a real Claude WordPress plugin. It connects your existing Claude subscription directly to your site.

Posts, media, SEO, themes, even theme files. All managed through plain English conversation. No Claude Code subscription. No terminal. No local install.

It works today.

There have been a lot of Claude for X concept posts hitting my timeline this week. Vaporware ideas, mockups, speculation. This one is different. It is an actual plugin you install in your WordPress admin, connect to your Claude account, and start using immediately.

What the Claude WordPress Plugin Does

Claude for WordPress gives your Claude subscription direct access to your site through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the same open standard that X and other platforms have adopted for AI agent access. Once connected, the Claude WordPress plugin lets you ask Claude to draft blog posts, update meta descriptions, manage categories, upload media, check plugin versions, and edit theme files. All through conversation.

The plugin uses WordPress Application Passwords, so your main login credentials are never shared. New content defaults to draft status. Deleted items go to trash instead of being permanently removed. Nothing happens that you cannot review.

It works with self-hosted WordPress.org sites running version 6.0 or higher. WordPress.com managed sites are not supported due to their infrastructure restrictions.

Who Built It

John Turner is not a random X poster with a mockup. He is the co-founder of SeedProd, the most popular WordPress landing page and theme builder plugin. His plugins have been downloaded over 25 million times across more than one million sites.

Turner runs four bootstrapped WordPress companies: SeedProd, Duplicator, RafflePress, and OnePageGA. In March, his team shipped WPVibe MCP, a free plugin that connects WordPress to any AI assistant through the Model Context Protocol. The Vibe AI plugin has since grown to over 2,000 active installations and processed more than 600,000 WordPress tool calls.

Claude for WordPress builds on that same MCP technology but optimizes the experience specifically for Claude users. The setup takes about 30 seconds: install the Vibe AI plugin, click to authorize, add the MCP server URL to Claude’s connectors, and your site is connected.

How It Compares

Anthropic maintains its own official WordPress.com plugin at claude.com. That plugin uses Claude Code and WordPress Studio, a local development environment, to create and edit sites before deploying changes. It is a developer-oriented workflow.

This Claude WordPress plugin takes the opposite approach. There is nothing to install locally. No Claude Code needed. Your regular Claude subscription handles everything through the chat interface. The plugin acts as the bridge between Claude and your WordPress REST API.

WordPress.com also launched its own official Claude connector in February 2026. That one is specific to WordPress.com hosted sites. John Turner’s plugin targets the self-hosted WordPress.org market, which covers the vast majority of independent WordPress sites.

What Claude Can Actually Do

The SeedProd team published a detailed walkthrough showing the real capabilities. Claude can draft and save blog posts, update meta descriptions across multiple articles at once, check which plugins need updating, manage category structures, and run site health checks.

On WordPress 6.9 sites, Claude can also discover what your installed plugins are capable of through the WordPress Abilities API. If a plugin registers abilities, Claude can interact with it directly without custom integration.

The theme editing workflow uses a draft-preview-publish model. Claude clones your active theme into a sandbox, makes changes there, and exposes a preview URL. Nothing goes live until you explicitly approve it. Every file operation runs through WordPress capability checks and PHP syntax validation before saving.

The Bottom Line

John Turner just did what a dozen concept posters could not. He shipped a real plugin that connects Claude to WordPress and actually works. If you run a self-hosted WordPress site and already pay for Claude, this plugin eliminates a surprising amount of grunt work.

The plugin is free. Install Vibe AI from the WordPress plugin directory, connect your Claude account, and tell Claude what to do. The setup takes about five minutes, and the workflow improvements are immediate.
