iOS 26 supports every iPhone 11 model and newer, plus the iPhone SE (2nd generation and newer). That means iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14, and iPhone 15 owners are all still covered. The bigger catch in 2026 is not basic compatibility. It is whether your iPhone also supports Apple Intelligence, because plenty of phones can run iOS 26 without getting Apple’s AI features.
This guide uses Apple’s current compatibility and Apple Intelligence support pages as the source of truth. If you want the broader overview first, read my iOS 26 guide. If your main question is AI, I also have a separate breakdown of iOS 26 Apple Intelligence features.
Quick Answer: Does Your iPhone Support iOS 26?
If your iPhone is on the list below, you can install iOS 26. If you have an iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, or anything older, you are outside Apple’s current compatibility list and will not see iOS 26 in Software Update.

The iPhones People Keep Asking About
- Does iPhone 12 support iOS 26? Yes. Every iPhone 12 model supports iOS 26, but none of them get Apple Intelligence.
- Does iPhone 13 support iOS 26? Yes. The entire iPhone 13 lineup supports iOS 26, but Apple Intelligence is not included.
- Does iPhone 14 support iOS 26? Yes. That includes the iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, and 14 Pro Max.
- Does iPhone 15 support iOS 26? Yes. But only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max support Apple Intelligence.
- Does iPhone XR support iOS 26? No. Apple’s current iOS 26 device list starts at the iPhone 11 generation.
Those model-specific answers matter because they line up with how people actually search. Plenty of users are not looking for a giant chart. They just want to know whether their iPhone 12, 13, 14, or 15 will update normally, and whether Apple Intelligence shows up after the install.
Which iPhones Support Apple Intelligence in iOS 26?
Apple’s current requirements are much stricter for AI than for the operating system itself. According to Apple Support, Apple Intelligence requires an iPhone 15 Pro model or an iPhone 16 model or later. In practical terms, that means these iPhones qualify:
- iPhone 15 Pro
- iPhone 15 Pro Max
- All iPhone 16 models, including iPhone 16e
- All newer supported iPhones, including the iPhone 17 family and iPhone Air
If you have a regular iPhone 15, iPhone 14, iPhone 13, iPhone 12, iPhone 11, or either supported iPhone SE model, you still get iOS 26 itself. You just do not get the Apple Intelligence feature set.
Apple Intelligence Limits To Know Before You Update
- Compatibility and AI are not the same thing. A phone can support iOS 26 and still miss out on Apple Intelligence.
- Language matters. Apple says your device language and Siri language need to match a supported language.
- Storage matters too. Apple lists about 7 GB of free storage as part of the requirement.
- Feature availability varies. Some Apple Intelligence features are limited by language or region, and some features support fewer languages than Apple Intelligence overall.
- China mainland has separate restrictions. Apple says Apple Intelligence does not currently work on supported devices purchased in China mainland, and it also has current location and Apple Account region limits there.
- Not every promised Siri feature is here yet. Apple says more personal Siri features are still in development for future software updates.
So if your main reason for caring about iOS 26 is the AI side, check Apple’s support requirements first instead of assuming the update alone is enough. That is especially important for iPhone 15 owners, because the non-Pro models are compatible with iOS 26 but do not meet Apple’s Apple Intelligence hardware requirement.
How To Check Your iPhone Model
- Open Settings.
- Tap General > About.
- Look for Model Name.
- Match it against the list above before you try to install iOS 26.
If you are not sure which exact model you have, Apple’s own Identify your iPhone model guide is the fastest way to confirm it.
Bottom Line
The current cutoff for iOS 26 is simple: iPhone 11 and newer, plus iPhone SE (2nd generation and newer). The more important cutoff for many people is Apple Intelligence, which starts at the iPhone 15 Pro and continues with the iPhone 16 family and later.
